Rialto chairs by Carl Gustaf Hiort af Ornäs for Puunveisto Oy

A pair of “Rialto” armchairs designed by Finnish architect and designer Carl Gustaf Hiort af Ornäs in 1957.

Original models produced by his own furniture company, Puunveisto Oy. First edition in teak with spring-loaded cushions. Rare on the market.

Carl Gustaf Hiort af Ornäs had a low-key career in the world of design. Today, his work is recognized worldwide.

This armchair combines several crafts: wood and leather. The result is fabulous.

It is both minimalist and sophisticated.

It was designed and exhibited for the 11th Milan Triennale in 1957.

The teak frame with its curved legs is crafted from a single piece of wood, and the cabinetmaker’s assembly of the straight-backed armrests is flawless.

The refined look is achieved through the black leather upholstery on the armrests and the woven backrest made from the same material. The armchair, a functional object, becomes a luxurious decorative piece.

The seats and backrests are also covered in a new ecru bouclé fabric.

In very good condition.

Created by Bruno Mathsson, the EVA armchair is one of the most iconic creations of 20th-century Scandinavian design. With its bentwood frame and suspended seat, the EVA model perfectly exemplifies the Swedish designer’s approach, which is based on ergonomics, lightness, and the expressive use of materials. It is best known for its series of webbing seats.

This EVA armchair was produced by DUX, the second official manufacturer of this model.
This rare version is distinguished by its beech wood frame and its backrest and seat made of woven cognac-colored leather webbing. The leatherwork creates a supple, breathable surface while highlighting the armchair’s lightweight, architectural construction.

The organically shaped armrests and legs naturally contour the body and give the armchair a presence that is both sculptural and warm. The contrast between the light wood and the cognac-colored leather lends the piece a timeless elegance.

Bruno Mathsson is one of the leading figures of modernist Swedish design. His research into ergonomics and body posture led him to develop a particularly personal approach to armchairs and seating. His designs combine great formal simplicity with remarkable comfort.

This model, produced by DUX, is beautifully crafted. It shows signs of age, with small marks that give it a unique patina. Overall, it’s in very good vintage condition.
