Miss Dorn Chairs by Philippe Starck for Disform, 80’S
Pair of “Miss Dorn” tripod chairs designed by Philippe Starck in 1982. They were manufactured by the Spanish editor Disform in 1983.
Black steel tube frame.
A postmodern design, the chair is a true sculpture. Philippe Starck contrasts straight lines with the base and the bent tubular backrest, alongside its generous circular seat.
Polyurethane foam seat with black fabric upholstery.
The fabric is new and precisely replicates the original manufacturing: the original piping was reused to maintain its original diameter.
In the last in-situ images, the chairs were photographed with their original fabric.
Very good overall condition. Beautiful patina on the lacquered steel.
Dimensions:
L. 53 cm D. 48 cm H. 70 cm.

History of the Miss Dorn:
In 1982, Philippe Starck designed them for his nightclub in Dallas (USA), The Starck Club. They can be discreetly seen in archive photos from this famous nightclub. The “Miss Dorn” chair perfectly integrated into Dallas’s premier nightlife spot, in perfect harmony with the interior, such as the stair railings also made of steel tubing with the same angles as the chair’s legs.
This club bore his name and was emblematic of the era’s clubbing atmosphere.
Many prominent figures of the time visited: Jean-Michel Basquiat, Grace Jones, Duran Duran, Deco, Boy George, New Order…
The Starck Club closed its doors in 1989, primarily due to drug-related issues. The club was associated with ecstasy trafficking, which was still legal in Texas in the mid-80s.
If you wish to see a vintage photo of the Miss Dorn chairs in this famous Dallas club (the photo was taken by Starck Club manager Greg McCone). This image is included among others in a very interesting article about this nightclub.
