Rare 1220 model bookcase by George Nelson for Herman Miller from the Action Office series.
This bookcase is modular; the hinged doors, which slide upward, are removable. Two doors have locks; keys are available. The shelves are made of bent steel and lacquered in beige; the sides are made of gray laminated composite material. The doors are lined with burgundy felt. The unit is mounted to the wall using three aluminum rails.
Some signs of oxidation around the shelf mounts.
The storage capacity is substantial despite a design that conveys a certain lightness.
The modules are mounted on the rails using hooks.
This system was available in several finishes and colors, primarily with aluminum legs. The “wall-mounted” model, as shown here, is less common.
