Danish Poul Cadovius Bookcase for Cado in Rio Rosewood

Created in the 1960s by Poul Cadovius for the Danish manufacturer Cado, this modular wall-mounted bookcase is a remarkable example of modernist Scandinavian design. Its suspended storage system allows for the creation of a unit that is at once functional, elegant, and particularly graphic.

Crafted from precious Rio rosewood, this composition was the luxury version featured in the Cado catalog in the 1960s.
The wall brackets accommodate the various components using the Cado mounting system, allowing for flexible adjustment of their position and arrangement.

The boomerang-shaped brackets, Poul Cadovius’s signature design, lend the entire piece a sense of visual lightness. The absence of a bulky floor-standing structure helps maintain a sense of space while offering ample storage capacity.

This exceptionally comprehensive set combines six shelves of varying depths, a cabinet with sliding doors, a chest of drawers, a hanging display cabinet, a cabinet with a hinged door and lock, and a rare magazine rack.

The set is stamped “Made in Denmark” on the back of the units and shelves and is in excellent vintage condition with a superb patina on the Rio rosewood. The tops of the units have been restored with a French Eco-label varnish that meets the standard for wooden toys.
