Joe Chair P100 Poltronova Edition

Vintage armchair known as the “Joe Chair” (model P100), designed in 1970 by the Italian trio Gionatan de Pas, Donato d’Urbino and Paolo Lomazzi for Poltronova.

An iconic piece of 20th-century design.

A large and highly comfortable armchair shaped like an oversized baseball glove, featuring a lightweight metal frame molded in polyurethane foam and set on concealed castors. It faithfully reproduces glove construction techniques, with lacing threaded through metal eyelets.

First edition from 1970, fully restored and reupholstered by our specialist upholsterer. The process required 9.5 meters of bouclé fabric in a terracotta tone by the French house Casamance, selected for its distinctive texture, along with ultra-thick 500 g/m² wadding and approximately sixty French-made gunmetal eyelets.
An exceptional level of craftsmanship, both in time and technique—resulting in a truly one-of-a-kind piece with its new upholstery.

The original P100 “Joe” leather patch has been carefully reapplied to the new upholstery in its exact original position. The cuts and stitching faithfully respect the original cover.

The structure was, of course, thoroughly checked prior to restoration and found to be in excellent condition. The chair now offers its original level of comfort.

In this project, inspired by the poetic language of Pop Art, the designers paid tribute to American baseball legend Joe DiMaggio, of Italian origin. He famously played for the New York Yankees and was briefly married to Marilyn Monroe.

Joe Chair is a delightful blend of design and art.

Gionatan de Pas, Donato d’Urbino and Paolo Lomazzi rose to prominence in the 1960s with their innovative plastic furniture, notably the inflatable Blow armchair for Zanotta, which achieved international success. They later founded their own design studio, Studio DDL.
