George Nelson CSS Bookcase, Mobilier International Edition
George Nelson CSS Modular Bookcase
A suspended bookcase in black-stained ash and aluminum from the 1970s, designed by George Nelson, produced by Herman Miller, and distributed in Europe by Mobilier International. CSS Model: Comprehensive Shelf System.
Fully modular. The 5 aluminum floor-to-wall uprights rest on the floor via an adjustable gas spring and on the wall via an adjustable aluminum bracket on the rail.
It can also be installed floor-to-ceiling, again using the floor brackets and a spring-loaded telescopic rod inserted into a hole in the ceiling.
Composed of several modules and shelves that can be inserted into the uprights without tools thanks to aluminum brackets: The height of the modules and shelves can be adjusted using adjustable fasteners that slide along the uprights (tool: Allen wrench)
It is also possible to position the modules and shelves against the wall by reversing the aluminum brackets, or as a “room divider,” serving as a screen or partition between two rooms.
