The so-called \u201csinistr\u00e9s\u201d wardrobe is an iconic piece from the reconstruction programme launched after the Second World War. Designed by French designer Ren\u00e9 Gabriel at the request of the Ministry of Reconstruction, it was part of the \u201cemergency furniture\u201d intended to refurnish destroyed homes at a symbolic price paid in ration coupons. Made from solid oak, it features two doors opening onto a hanging section on one side and shelving on the other, with the original lock and keys.
